Every team has different expectations/goals for a season. There are some teams that planned on taking a big step this year and turn into contenders. Florida and Carolina are right on track for that step as they would have hoped they would be. Other teams think they are ready to take a big step and completely fall flat on their face… that’s Chicago this year. They traded away picks and prospects to get Seth Jones and are now bottom of the league. This could be a disaster for Chicago - not just this year but for years to come.

The coyotes are pretty much right on track with what their plan for the season seemed to be… tanking. They have a ridiculous amount of picks accrued and are right on pace for a top 3 pick in a draft with tons of high end talent.

A funny one is Buffalo. This has to be the worst that their line up has looked in years and yet they are having a fantastic start to the season. This is almost detrimental to the plan of the organization in some ways because they were probably hoping for a big pick this year (again). At the same time, if there is any team that is tired of finishing at the bottom of the league, it’s probably the sabres. That said… I think they will need to find something to replace eichel somehow and you usually have to find that high in the draft.
