See here's my thing. This team, not very long ago, won the Conference and was the second-best team in the league. Did we get man-handled in the playoffs? Yes, but the best team in the league was manhandled even worse than we were.
What's happened since then? A forced coach firing with a somewhat-understandable temporary replacement; an iffy off-season decision to make the temporary replacement a permanent one; two incredibly weird seasons that, as far as I'm concerned, don't even really count as real seasons.... and so now, here we are with an honest-to-God, real-life, actual NHL head coach, and we're back in second place in the entire league again.
I'm starting to wonder if this really is the actual Flames, and the versions of them between 18-19 and this season were the anomalies. I mean even without any real coaching during those seasons, there were still flashes of the 18-19 and 21-22 teams here and there.
I was livid at our off season this year, but the way Sutter has these guys playing... I dunno, I'm just saying I'm now willing to find out if this (and the 18-19) team is what they're supposed to be like when they're all on the same page.
Edit: I'm also of the opinion that this team does not get out-coached and/or embarrassed in the playoffs with Sutter at the helm.
