Flames didn't have a 1st, and traded away two seconds in 2015.
Still came out of it with Mangiapane (top line forward), Kylington (top two pair D), and ANdersson (top two pair D).
2016, Flames get Dube (top two line fwd) and Fox (Norris winner) in rounds 2 and 3. And I still see an NHLer in Phillips, personally.
I believe in the Flames' amateur scouts' ability to fill out their roster later in the draft. If anything, it's been the best part of the organization even dating back to the later Darryl Sutter years (Giordano, Backlund, Brodie, Ferland), the Feaster years (Gaudreau and Kulak, and IIRC Hathaway as an undrafted UFA)
Just not gonna find a piece at that centre position the calibre of Eichel, which requires tanking almost every time barring a situation like this. This isn't the Hamonic trade, which was a poor move the day it was executed. This is Jack freakin' Eichel. It will be very easy to swallow those drafts unless the names Shane Wright or Connor Bedard are attached to the Flames' former pick.
