In Canada, I've noticed over the years, the media rarely reports
anything about the military unless it's about assault, abuse, or misconduct. It gives a distorted picture. The people I know who do have military experience – quite a few of them, and several, I should point out, are women – have a different story to tell.
They will, however, agree with Cecil and the media about the top ranks. DND headquarters is well known as a hive of scum and villainy. I could say that the Canadian armed forces would be well served by cashiering every general and admiral, abolishing 90 percent of their positions, and promoting a small number of colonels and navy captains to the few top jobs that are actually necessary. I suspect a great many servicepeople and veterans would agree with me.
