The lack of trade chips are definitely his fault. The Hamonic trade was so crippling sending prime assets away for a pretty crappy player.
I feel like the Flames have the chips. Tkachuk, Dube, Valimaki, Coronato, Zary, Pelletier, Wolf, 2 2nds next year, all future 1sts. (Some of those chips are harder to spend now than they were in the summer)
They could have made this deal happen and for me I wish this was the moment where Treliving took his shot and laid it all out for that potential franchise talent in his prime.
You brought in Darryl, you have Markstrom, you can probably keep Johnny (especially with Eichel), you have Lindholm, Hanifin, Andersson all signed for the next 3 years minimum for under $5M each. Go get the superstar center who has 5 years left on his deal and legitimately chase the Cup
