With very few exceptions (Byfield ect) a player that has proven themselves at the NHL level, are still improving, and are under the age of 23 are significantly more valuable than a prospect.
Mangiapane is more valuable than any of the prospects that have been mentioned for Eichel, and Dube is only the smallest of steps behind Krebs in value. There is a very long list of amazing prospects that just can't think at an NHL speed, but look amazing everywhere else.
First round picks (not yet selected) have value because a GM has strong faith in his scouting team. That's human nature. It also is fantastic for marketing purposes.
