It’s four full years, plus playoffs this year, minimum. And there’s no guarantee Eichel walks - he extended in Buffalo, Calgary is better in every respect imaginable.
If you get Eichel, your odds of retaining Gaudreau, Tkachuk, and Lindholm go up.
Eichel isn’t injury prone - he has a neck injury. He wants to go with the surgery that, while unproven in the world of hockey, has seen success with MMA fighters.
He wants this procedure instead of the surgery that has left Peyton Manning unable to grip a football or feel his fingertips.
What extra future piece is not worth preventing the Vegas Golden Knights from getting him? I’m glad people are high on Matthew Coronato - there’s no guarantee he even signs here.
There isn’t one single asset in the pipeline that isn’t worth including to close this deal. There just isn’t.
We should’ve traded Dion to Boston for Thornton. It would have seemed stunning in the moment, but history would have borne it out as the correct move.
This is the correct move. If it doesn’t work out, we didn’t trade a bunch of future 1sts. We traded one. Even If we trade 2, it’s probably still fine.
If nothing else, you drive the price up on Vegas even further. There’s no folding at this stage.
