Fleury has made a career out of riding the success of the team in front of him, making a few flashy saves so people think he's better than he is, and then falling apart when games are big. There are reasons why 3 different coaches on 2 different teams in 5 different playoff years benched him in big games. And who can forget giving up 4 goals to the Sharks in one 5 minute power play. He gets credit for the 2016 Cup win but he started a single game in that entire run and he got absolutely shelled by Tampa. His last playoff game in Pittsburgh he gave up 3 goals in the first 10 minutes of the first period. Not to mention the iconic WJC failure.
He's coasted by on his "likeable" personality, but his career numbers, outside of wins, aren't all that impressive. And his numbers in the playoffs for the Pens from 2010-2015 were absolute abysmal.
Six straight playoff runs with a sub .900 sv%. He's actually been much better for Vegas than he was here, but he still couldn't get it done. His only SCF appearance with Vegas, he gave up 4 goals a game to the Caps.
As a Pens fan who has had to deal with a fanbase that has utterly deified this guy, I'm getting a ton of joy from the schadenfreude of this atrocious Blackhawks team exposing how overrated he is. (Forgive me, there are few hockey players I feel more strongly about than this guy. Any criticism of him here in Pittsburgh is treated like blasphemy.)
