Is there really a need for a doorbell in today's day and age?

Deliveries are left on the step, friends text when they arrive. If someone is canvassing they knock.

The bell hasn't worked from the time we moved in. We haven't missed it.

I'm not arguing against doorbells, just curious as to your reasoning for needing one.
