I'm struggling with how I felt about Dune, everything I absolutely loved about Bladerunner really annoyed me with Dune. The pacing and the score especially. Ultimately I really didn't connect with the film, just like the 1984 Lynch version. I can't imagine the mostly 20 something year old kids in the theater last night were absorbing the dialogue and the intricacies in the script, I can't imagine what they got out of it besides the visuals. The most entertaining aspect for me was comparing the shots and scenes from the original to what can be done in 2021.
Villeneuve is still one of my favorite directors, I remember loving every second of Bladerunner 2049 and soaking up every second. Hitting a 10:30PM showing after being up at 5AM for work was also rough, I have to consider that wasn't ideal for this type of film. I had a hunch I wasn't going to to enjoy it, still going to give it another viewing and another shot.
