DeBrincat is a sub-6ft 165lb winger. He was a high second round pick. If he hadn’t been seen by all the people who went to watch McDavid, he probably would’ve been picked later, if at all.
Ditto Strome. You go to watch McDavid, and you see this other big centre with a brother who was a 1st rounder himself, and you think “he must be good too”.
The only reason Marc Antoine Pouliot became a 1st round pick is because he played with Sid in Rimouski.

McDavid wasn’t even on the roster during Debrincat’s draft year. Putting up 51 goals and 101 points in 60 games was probably enough to get him drafted on his own.
Crosby didn’t even play a game with Rimouski until after Pouliot was already drafted so that theory doesn’t add up at all.
