Debrincat was a stud too, but they worked well together. Strome was the set up guy, Debrincat the shooter.
Regardless I don’t think McDavid impacted his draft status much.

I don’t see how playing on McDavid’s team couldn’t impact the draft prospects of everyone on the roster.
DeBrincat is a sub-6ft 165lb winger. He was a high second round pick. If he hadn’t been seen by all the people who went to watch McDavid, he probably would’ve been picked later, if at all.
Ditto Strome. You go to watch McDavid, and you see this other big centre with a brother who was a 1st rounder himself, and you think “he must be good too”.
The only reason Marc Antoine Pouliot became a 1st round pick is because he played with Sid in Rimouski.
Junior hockey is strange.
