Tkachuk would be the best LHS LW on a lot of good teams in the league, though. And he's perfectly competent at RW, despite that being his offwing.
Tkachuk-Matthews-Marner?
Guentzal-Crosby-Tkachuk?
Ovechkin-Backstrom-Tkachuk?
Tkachuk-Point-Kucherov?
Tkachuk-MacKinnon-Rantanen?
Tkachuk-McDavid-Puljujarvi?
Tkachuk-Eichel-Mangiapane?
Tell me any of those lines wouldn't be an improvement on that team's current top line. Gaudreau is just really damn good among LWers, but Tkachuk is not a second liner by any means.
Just seems like a strange criticism. Lindholm is the one guy slotted too high, much like the Craig Conroy or Daymond Langkow types of the past.
