I don’t support the vision for Inglewood. As a single family home owner, who was drawn to Inglewood early in my time here, I don’t agree with the way it’s being developed, for the most part. I don’t believe the 17th Ave ‘upgrade’ was well executed. The entire industrial area northeast of the Blackfoot/CP rail will be owned by one company.
More than that, the people I’ve heard who have truly been working closely with council share a common complaint about him, and I think most of that crowd supported Naomi. That says something to me, though I take it with a grain of salt.
And it’s not NIMBYism to not support every purposes development. The Y shelter/residence, Sherrif King and its expansion, and supportive housing are all within spitting distance and I don’t know anyone who opposed those. I’ve been out there at 2 am with people in crisis. I’ve been the guy on the phone with DOAP, Alpha, AHS, trying to get someone to help these people out. But hey, we have a funky bus line and drunken party bikes rolling down 9th Ave.
That’s certainly not all on GCC. Ward 9 is a hell of a complex area, but I don’t see a trend in a particularly positive direction.
