Tonight demonstrates why you go out and trade for gamebreaking talent when its available.
Gaudreau, Tkachuk and Lindholm shrinking in the face of a challenge on the big stage as they have frequently in the last two years. And then they show up when you least expect or need them to.
Meanwhile guys like Mangiapane and Dube can get things done just fine in the same situation. We need more players with those guys DNAs.
While the top guys will have their moments surely, we still invested in the wrong core talent because they don't get it done when the team really needs them to come through, and within the context of this game, help to mount that comeback and not fade away after the 4-2 tally.
Meanwhile the Oilers can get away with McDavid and Draisaitl doing 90% of the work with Smith standing on his head. It's a joke, it's not a team effort solution, yet it is more effective than us giving everything we've got up and down the line up with middle end talent.
I hope the Flames end up making the move to get Jack Eichel, even at the high cost of doing so.
