This is such a tough one. Really thought Bennett always had the potential to be a difference-making top 6 center. Nice to see him having this level of success so far in Florida.
But man it stings to seem him doing so well. Don't want to see him fail or anything, and not cheering against him, but it stings.
It's really too bad there wasn't more time for him and Sutter to work together. But he had already asked for a trade, and that marked the end of his time with the Flames.
I chalk this situation up to the failure of the Gulutzen-Peters-Ward coaching tree. Just crazy how bad that was. I get the argument that this was always more on Bennett than the organization, and to an extent I agree, but it's really baffling how poorly his development was handled by the coaching staff over time.
Hard to turn the page.
