People who were kids when it was introduced have good memories of it. Those kids are now in their late 20s and 30s and have disposable income and bad taste, which is why it's back.
The same thing happens with a lot of pop-culture things that fall out of popularity only to have a resurgence 20 or so years later. It's the same reason we're seeing all the 80s and 90s tv reboots now.
