I don’t doubt Gaudreau can get $8M. But look at winger salaries and most of the ones making more than that are a tier above him or have very regrettable contracts. And the team has to be careful with that kind of commitment. Even with Kane, after that contract kicked in, the Blackhawks didn’t win a single PO round. Perhaps because they could no longer afford to put a winning team around their two stars.
