Sure but how many times does Buffalo come through Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal? His family would have many more opportunities to watch Sean than the few times they come to Calgary to see him. Regardless I’d say this would be a small aspect to the consideration of waiving and most likely be seen as a perk to doing so. If Monahan covets ice time and roles Buffalo all of the sudden becomes an enticing consideration and allows him to bet on himself. It’s also a guarantee that he gets flipped whether it’s at this trade deadline or next and will find himself in a position for a real shot at a cup. Teams like Boston, Vegas and NYR will be looking at all in moves if they progress like they should this year and Monahan could find himself on one of those teams. It comes down to his decision obviously this is why players negotiate no trade clauses in the first place but it allows him time to consider things and I’ve no doubt Monahan would way his options if he’s posed with a trade to Buffalo.
