I guess I was just reserving desperation (31st and 30th) to the bottom of the bottom when it comes to the season, which felt over done.

I would feel more optimistic if we could finish bottom of the barrel. That would at least mean a good draft position and would likely result in trading some core pieces for further draft picks to start a proper rebuild. But that's not the Flames way, their way is either finish just outside the playoffs, or sneak in and then get bounced in round 1. All of the dejection of failure, none of the hope for a better future
