WRT centres, no, they didn’t pan out. But the point is they probably thought they had a shot at RW when they drafted them. Just like Reinhart, Lindholm, et al.

I skipped right past that draft for some reason. Probably because it was the worst draft the franchise has ever had and I've tried to scrub it from my memory. I mean, what a #### show. Highest pick in Calgary history and they pick Bennett. Two second round picks, and they bury their wedge in the turf picking Mason MacDonald and Hunter Smith. Five picks after the first round and not a single NHL game to show. 2014 was just another example of how bad the Flames are drafting.
And yes, teams should be going after BPA by position from time to time. They routinely do it when it comes to goaltenders. It's a reason why when one goaltender goes you'll see a bunch of teams jump on that bandwagon. I've also seen multiple teams say they picked defensemen because of need, so yes, you can pick for need, especially when your system is completely void of that player type.
