I believe it was Ralph Klein who said to never lock your gas rates, because they are wildly unpredictable. I am not aware of any historical charts showing natural gas prices correlated with anything reliably. In the "More Money Than God" book, there was a fascinating story on Brian Hunter's betting on natural gas prices as one of the most spectacular successes and failures in history.
