Tanev tripped him. I'm not going to argue that. Was it intentional or their skates colliding I honestly don't know.

But I think what people are saying is that McDavid puts everyone including himself in a very scary position by driving that way. It's allowed. It's legal. But with that much speed he is the weapon, not the defender cutting him down.

You're allowed to trip players in hockey. It's a two minute minor. We've heard of "good penalties" for years for tripping a guy that might have had a breakaway.

This isn't any different, but McDavid is making it dangerous for himself and goaltenders because he leaves no room for anything else to happen.
