Gostisbehere's contract isn't that bad when you look at what guys signed for this offseason, and he always had big bounce back potential.
Not only that but you also had Philly who likely would have been willing to pay a pick for you to take him, since they were willing to give a pick to Arizona to take him.
So you probably could have received Gostisbehere + a 2nd (that's what Arizona got), and then with your cap space retained 50% of Gostisbehere and probably got another pick in return.
Instead you take Carson Twarynski and put him on waivers.
