Cap space only has value if you're going to use it. Eat half of those salaries and you have the potential to garner a significant return. Taking Twarynski was just a waste of a pick and has no value in any shape of form. You're not getting anything for him because he isn't an NHL player. Those other guys, while having some warts, are NHL talent, can produce, and could return good assets with the right use of cap space (retention).
