Maybe at one point in the future the game could evolve to being more like the women’s game with no hitting but that’s a structural change to the sport that would beed to happen at youth levels to start.
You could take fighting out of every level of hockey starting tomorrow and the game wouldn’t change at all. It’s already illegal, it just needs to be penalized more severely and you could get rid of it completely.
And I say this as a complete hypocrite. I love a good hockey fight (a real one that happens naturally, not the staged BS) but from a player safety perspective and in terms of it actually being a valuable part of the sport it really could be eliminated tomorrow with no real impact.

A hit causes a much larger whiplash effect within the skull than a punch does. Your brain bounces around much more. I work in an industry that studies this ALOT. Your brain doesn't play ping pong with itself like after a hit.
