I imagine the number right now is around $9-9.5 million from gaudreau’s camp and flames management might be trying to get him down to $8-8.5 million. But if he goes flying out of the gate to start the season and if he’s not signed by December… I think the price will could rise to $10 million per year by then. Treliving could come to them offering $9 million by then but Gaudreau‘s camp could look at it as the flames took the gamble to wait and now they’d have to pay for it since he is lighting up the league in a contract year… and by then he’ll be even closer to free agency with plenty of suitors after a huge season.
I know it was just a preseason game but Johnny was in god-mode tonight. If he keeps that up in the regular season this team will be a real force in the West… and the cost for Treliving to get him signed will be scary high.

But that's thing, I can't see a scenario where Treviling wants to sign him and is just waiting too long. Gaudreau had a down year, this would be a great time to sign a long term contract if you believe in the player.
But it's the stupidest time in the world for Johnny to sign a deal. a) sign with one team after a subpar season (by his standards) or b) do the best you can, up your stats this season and sign with the highest bitter/closer to home for more money than a Flames offer.
I mean, I know where my money is on that bet. Again, not being pessimistic or angry or anything, I want the Flames to win the Cup again, but just looking at what appears to be most realistic.
