The only extent I hold Treliving accountable for not being able to extend Tkachuk and Gaudreau is that if he had built a contender, those players would be more easily persuaded to sign.
At this point, they have no reason to want to stay long term and he can't force them to. I doubt that he is playing hardball with them. They likely just don't want to sign on, and I can't blame them for that. I don't think it has anything to do with him not believing in them.
