I fully admit I am shocked that the Flames let it get to this. I don't buy that a contract is done or even close. It's clear they couldn't come to an agreement over the summer as there's no way the team or the player would want this carrying over into the season. The team is now dealing from a position of weakness as Gaudreau can only be traded to five teams and those five teams know that they can wait until July to get him without giving up an asset. It's really hard to put a positive spin on this situation.
