Why wouldn't you fill out in such a way that gives you 100% control of where you might go midseason?
It's not specifically to handcuff your team, it's to benefit yourself.
Plus, if you do want to get an outrageous offer from Calgary, why not put yourself in the situation where you control whether you are traded or not. Gives Calgary lots of incentive to make him an offer he can't refuse.
Lots of players don't like getting uprooted midseason. At least this way, he would say where he could go specifically.

I think what is most important in a contract year is getting traded somewhere where your value might tank. Playing for a few months anywhere is no big deal, but being stuffed down a line up or playing with no bodies would be the worst part.
