I think it’s more likely ownership told him the rebuild was over after the ‘15 season.

There were many who thought the Flames were going to be in the McDavid sweepstakes at the beginning of that year. I’m guessing Treliving probably thought he had at least 2-3 years of collecting high picks and building through the draft.

Im not sure why any GM would cut short his own rebuild, specifically in year one of his tenure. Makes no sense whatsoever.
