Okay, somewhat grumpy hot take time... A lot of people need to pump the brakes on the hype train for Emma Raducanu. Not on here, just in general.
I am seeing a lot of media lumping Raducanu in with Leylah (and Alcaraz), like they've done the same thing here. Leylah was always likely to be a success at some point after a Roland Garros junior win and an AO junior finals, and generally being highly successful as a teenager. Emma came out of nowhere and has so far achieved some good results against non-seeded players - she has yet to face a player in the top 40 at this tournament. She's playing Bencic tomorrow, which would actually be a real, legitimate statement win for her if she gets it, but even if she pulls it off... let's face it, it's Bencic. Now, if she takes out current-God-mode-Sakkari or Pliskova in the semis? I'll be proven wrong. But as much as this has obviously been a really good run for her, it's not even close to the same thing that Leylah has pulled off here, beating two top 5 players and a former world #1 who was in top form on the day.
