I'm saying Sean Monahan has been a big problem for this team for awhile now. Hes such a one dimensional player, although the dimension of scoring goals is the best one to have, he just doesn't do much of it anymore. He had 10 goals last year. 10. If hes not scoring most nights he is completely invisible. Like complete ghost.
Of course it goes both ways as Gaudreau and Monahan have been together for longer than most linemates in the league. Johnny has always drove that offense. As weve seen in multiple playoffs, key on Johnny, Monahan gets neutered. Just invisible. If Johnny had another threat on his line that could create or drive some offense I believe things would/could have been different.
My original point was Monahans value will wilt even further without Gaudreau as his winger, or you saddle Gaudreau with Monahan again and we see the same crap play out.
Either way I believe the time to trade Monahan was yesterday.
