Character matters, and I know the hockey world values toughing it out. I personally find it stupid. Like what was the point in Tanev playing meaninglessness games injured to finish the season? An injury also creates opportunities for players down the line up. I am not sure, but maybe giving a Bennett the opportunity, or giving Mangiapane Monahan’s PP minutes earlier developed their offensive game a bit more? Again I value Monahan’s character, and I admire his will to win. I am just worried playing injured does more damage in the long run, both to him and to the team.
PS: I get that hockey players are rarely/never 100% healthy. Some injuries, especially in the playoffs, are worth playing through. That said, each player has his own pain tolerance and I won’t criticize any player for not playing through injures.
