I don't think this correct. I've been involved in a lot of deal negotiation, and one of the rules of thumb is that the side that is willing to hold out the longest is going to get the best deal. Patience always beats out desperation.
I imagine this is why Buffalo hasn't traded Eichel yet. However, the moment that they find a deal they are happy with, they are going to circle back to every interested party and disclose the deal, and let them know what the deal they need to beat is, hoping the other sides will get desperate enough to offer more.
There is nothing that disqualifies the Flames as suitors based on how long this trade process takes.
