Calgary might not be a place he’d prefer as a first choice but I don’t think he’d be opposed to it at all. Lots of other good players with USA Hockey here and if the Flames got him I assume they would back him and his doctor in the surgery he wants. He’s also someone who really wants to win and has never played for a coach as good as Sutter. It also seemed like his close friend Hanifin was a guy who really responded to Sutter’s coaching and praised his coaching style when asked about it in interviews. He could probably convince Eichel that Calgary is a great spot for him.

I’m sure he’ll go virtually anywhere but I also imagine one of his new agent’s first questions was where he wanted to play if he had a choice. If the agent is the one that’s going to arrange a complex trade (possibly with 3 teams included), he will probably try to get the destination team that eichel wants. If the sabres are the ones setting up the trade, they’ll probably not care where he goes as long as it’s the western conference and they get what they wanted for him.
