I’m wondering if ownership is not keen on paying Johnny at this stage. Totally baseless speculation, but a 7-8 year deal, probably richest in the history of the franchise, for a player that has slightly regressed and shrinks in the playoffs when the physicality intensifies.

Part of me wonders if they want to see it play out and are prepared to see him walk/get flipped at the deadline rather than make long term commitments to the player.

Maybe to Tre and staff this is a ‘Last Dance’ situation and they’re not prepared to build into the future with this core.
