Rapid tests aren't very good at picking up positive cases if you don't have symptoms, or don't have symptoms yet. When AHS was doing rapid testing at their centres, they would only do rapid tests on people with symptoms. If you were a close contact, but didn't have symptoms, you had to do the regular test.

At the same time, you are most contagious in the two days before you develop symptoms.

I think rapid tests have their place, but I would use them more for workplaces, where people need to go, to try and at least catch some cases. To use them for a strictly leisure activity, doesn't make sense. Except to placate those who refuse to get vaccinated.
