It's hardly tradition to have 3 divisions, it's a sucky situation that baseball finds itself in since 1994.
MLB would be best to expand two teams and go with 4 divisions of 8. You can keep American and National League but if you propose to have DH everywhere, then it's better to have an Eastern and Western Conference
So you can:
Play the 7 teams in your division 10 times = 70
Play the 8 teams in your conference 6 times = 48
Play the 16 teams in the other conference 3 times = 48
That equals 166, 4 extra games! Doubleheaders!
