Maybe they will moderate it, maybe they won’t, but it’s highly unlikely that it would be moderated real time unless a mod was in thread. In this instance Bingo was, but what about all the times there isn’t a mod. And what about topics where it’s much less clear if it’s actual misinformation? Do mods need to go extensively research, or do they rely on the loud consensus here? Is it even worth going in after the fact to “clean it up” or do you just rely on your user base to set the record straight in thread? Moderating forums where there is a rapid pace to certain topics and a relatively low viewership (compared to a Facebook or a Twitter) is just difficult. Full stop. Every forum seems to struggle with this. Also, do you think given all the rebuttals that anyone who wasn’t already looking for an excuse to latch on to the antivax movement was convinced by that poster? Seems highly unlikely and probably other than derailing the thread, not much of a long term impact. Maybe even a positive to reinforce the rebuttals for people who needed that info to help combat antivaxxers in their own lives.
