I guess the question would be if you watched Spider-Man: Into the spiderverse. Did you need all the character backgrounds to enjoy the movie? cause I certainly didn't.

We have back stories for Doctor Octopus from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies, Depending on which Green Goblin they go with we have a backstory on both, and Lizard and Electro backstories were fleshed out in The Amazing Spider-Man movies.

I wouldn't say backstories on all villains are necessary. However, the Green Goblin and the Lizard would be pretty weak characters without their personal ties to Peter Parker. If we are getting versions those characters dropped in from other film universes, that's a bit different. Then the question becomes, what' the personal beef with this particular spiderman.
