My only beef with the trade is that if we kept him, we could have dangled him as expansion bait and avoided losing Gio.
Yeah, this assumes that Seattle would have taken Bennett, but I strongly feel they would have if he was available.
My belief is that the the trade can be looked at as Bennett to Florida and Gio to Seattle, for Heineman and a 2nd round pick. It will be interesting to see if Seattle flip Gio at the deadline for a better return than what we got for Bennett and what if anything, we do to use the cap space created by losing Gio.
From an asset management perspective overall, this doesn't look good, but there are still some moving parts to really see how it settles.
I could be wrong of course, and maybe Seattle would still have taken Gio. It's impossible to know for sure, but I personally don't believe it.
