Maybe a slight overpay of $500k but I think the Flames intention here was to keep it to a 1 year deal. If he ends up fitting in then you can re-sign him in the season, if he doesn't work out then you probably can recoup your pick at the deadline.
Keeping the term down here is a positive, not a negative.

Agreed. If he fits in this year negotiate a new contract with term. If he doesn't fit then no big loss. Hard to find anything to complain about here for me personally. Obviously CP feels differently but that's a given Hahaha.
