Maybe a slight overpay of $500k but I think the Flames intention here was to keep it to a 1 year deal. If he ends up fitting in then you can renegotiate, if he doesn't work out then you probably can recoup your pick at the deadline.
Keeping the term down here is a positive, not a negative.

And all of those contracts are also very bad.
Anyway the one-year aspect of it is fine. It's just too much money for one year and an indictment of the Flames' decision to trade for this player in the first place. Just a pretty bad bet to acquire a low-upside player with a low-upside contract.
