Sure a team could call his bluff, pay a ton of assets to get him, wait while he has surgery, wait while he recovers, wait while he piddles his way back to playing form (the whole time, he's getting paid) then force him to come back and have a disgruntled player who doesn't want to be there join their line up. If the guys camp says "he doesn't want to go to your team/city/country" that GM probably isn't going to give up a ton of high valued assets for that player. It's already a risky enough proposition without that added element.

I think we should give them gaudreau, Tkachuk, monahan, hanifin and our next 5 first round draft choices.
It just makes sense from a risk perspective.
