Dixon had a test with Williams in 2003. I don't think it's fair to say he's never considered F1, it was never an option beyond one test.
Lots of ex F1 drivers have tried their hand at NASCAR with little to no success. Kimi and JPM come to mind. I can't think of anyone who has tried to go to F1 from NASCAR. Tony Stewart is the most successful between open wheel and Stock cars.
The biggest adjustment for Larson would be breaking in something so light. He has an innate ability to go fast in traction limited cars on any surface. Would be nice to see him get more seat time in sports cars to see how he fares.
If Scott Speed was deserving of a drive in F1, nobody can tell me Larson doesn't.
