I think it is safe to assume that the longer the inactivity goes on, the less likely it is that anything is done to significantly improve the roster (either Eichel or something more attainable). This is merely more of lost Treliving playing a patient game that will inevitably bite him when someone else pulls the rug out from under him.
I think we need to get used to the idea of this being the 2021 Calgary Flames, even though it doesn't look very promising.

Would be past the buy out window and is a league rule, not a team option.
Flames have never gone into a season with considerable cap space under Treliving, no reason other than just guessing the worst outcome to believe it will happen now.
