Taking the PFD off when I was 8. Thanksgiving day at the Y back when it was on Northmount. Why it was open, I don't know to this day. The PFD made me think I could swim. Dad wasn't paying attention (I don't blame him either)... neither was the life guard. Jumped off the diving board, and I'm sure it was a span of 30 seconds that felt like 30 minutes fighting to get my head above water. My Dad tells me that when he looked back, I was splashing in the water, and he started baning on the glass wall he was behind. It was the observation area/gym, with no door to the pool. Barely made it to the edge when I felt someone pull me out, which I think was the Lifeguard who couldn't get to me sooner, cause he was on the phone to his girlfriend.
I lived, but have a slight fear of water, and I failed the Gym 30 componant when we went to SAIT and tried Scuba... I gave it a shot, but couldn't last 10 seconds without a panic attack.
