I'm truly disappointed in humanity these days. I don't know when it happened, but the social contract of net public benefit seems to have been forgotten by many in the name of poorly formed arguments about personal liberty. I thought we were better than this. I was wrong, and that depresses the #### out of me.

This entire thread is like an exercise of the Trolley Problem, except that those who are choosing not to pull the lever, letting the trolley kill the group because the decision to act is unethical, are basically saying "yeah, the trolley is going to run them over, but they'll probably be fine. I've heard that 99% of people who get run over by a trolley survive."

WTF am I even reading here?
I feel the same way, but I remind myself that what you see on social media is a lot of talk; what I see in real life is a different story. With the horrific fire season we are having here in BC I see countless instances of the best aspects of humanity. People are selflessly helping others, sharing their time and resources to help people that need it.

Social media is full of ####, but its not a good barometer.
