Vaccinated people can still get infected, and if the symptoms aren't as bad, then great. But if someone shows up to the game with a negative test and somehow infects an vaccinated person, they should be fine. Isn't that the purpose of the vaccine?

Not quite. It isn't about the individual as much as it is about the community. I'm a cold, calculating monster. I actually don't care if random people I don't know get COVID, but I do care about the effect of community spread, the effect it has on the health care system, and how the chain reaction effects the ability for hospitals to function and how it effects the economy.
If a vaccinated person get infected and the disease is light, great for that person. But not great for everyone else that get infected as a result of that person acting as a vector in the community.
